Information, not veterinary advice
Gray But Golden publishes general information to help owners of aging dogs understand common senior-dog care topics and prepare for conversations with their veterinarian. Nothing on this Site — in articles, tools, checklists, or replies to messages — is veterinary or medical advice, a diagnosis, or a treatment recommendation, and nothing here is a substitute for professional veterinary care.
Only a licensed veterinarian who examines your dog can diagnose a condition or prescribe treatment. If anything in a guide worries you about your own dog, the correct next step is your vet — not another article.
Emergencies
If your dog is in distress — for example, struggling to breathe, collapsed, seizing, unable to urinate, showing a swollen or hard abdomen, uncontrolled bleeding, or suspected poisoning — contact your veterinarian or an emergency veterinary hospital immediately. Do not spend emergency time reading this or any website.
Costs are estimates
Many of our guides discuss the cost of care, products, and equipment, because cost is a real part of caring for an old dog. Every figure we publish is an estimate, researched at the date shown on the article and scoped to the US market where stated. Actual prices vary — sometimes widely — by region, provider, facility, your dog’s size and condition, and over time. Treat our figures as planning aids, and confirm current pricing with your veterinarian or the provider before making decisions.
Product mentions
Our guides sometimes mention types of products, specific products, or brands (for example, ramps, beds, harnesses, foods, or supplements) so owners know what to look for and what questions to ask. Mentions are informational only: they are not endorsements, not guarantees that a product is right for your dog, and not a substitute for your veterinarian’s guidance — particularly for anything your dog eats or takes. Always check suitability, sizing, and ingredients for your individual dog.
Advertising disclosure
Gray But Golden is supported by display advertising, served by third-party ad networks. At launch, display advertising is the Site’s only advertising model: we do not publish sponsored articles, and we do not earn commissions from product links. If our advertising arrangements ever change — for example, if affiliate links are introduced — this page will be updated and the affected articles will disclose it clearly, so you always know how the Site makes money.
Advertising never decides our topics or our conclusions.
Accuracy, verification, and corrections
We take accuracy seriously. Our guides are researched from established veterinary sources — including the AVMA, the AAHA, the AKC, VCA Hospitals, and university veterinary schools — and every article carries a “last verified” date. Medical topics are re-verified on a regular schedule, and cost information is refreshed as prices move.
Even so, veterinary guidance evolves and errors can happen. If you find something that looks wrong, please tell us via the Contact page or graybutgolden@gmail.com. Factual corrections are reviewed, and when a guide needs fixing, we fix it and update its verified date. That commitment — checkable sources, visible dates, and open corrections — is the standard this Site runs on.
